Awa Ningyo-Jyorui Theater featuring Tomowaka Takemoto

In Tokushima, Eastern Shikoku you will find the highest number of Rural Community Theatres in all of Japan. They were built in the late Edo period by local residents who would put on performances for the community to give thanks for a good harvest. Awa Ningyo Joururi is a form of Japanese puppet theater that was developed and thrives on these stages in Tokushima for centuries.
